The Duration Digits Pad is used to enter a duration in hours, minutes and seconds. When first activated, the duration is set to all zeros and as digits are tapped they are entered from the right. The Minutes button is shorthand for tapping "0,0,Done", which takes the current digits entered, append 2 zeros and exits Duration Digits Pad.
